Karela Sabzi | Bitter Gourd Sabzi

I am sharing a simple stiry fry version of bitter gourd which can be enjoyed with chapati/roti or with dal chawal. Also, I assure you this recipe does not give bitter taste. So give it a try and let me know in the comment section below. :)

Ingredients 
  1. 250 grams Karela/Bittergourd 
  2. 4 tablespoon oil 
  3.  5-7 curry leaves optional 
  4. 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chilli powder
  5. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  6. 1 medium onion
  7. 2 medium tomato
  8. Salt as per taste
  9. 1 teaspoon chopped garlic 
  10. 1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish 
  11. 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves   
How to make the recipe
  1. Wash and slice bitter gourd thinly, discard the seeds
  2. In a bowl add sliced bitter gourd, salt and mix well.
  3. Keep it aside for 15-20mins
  4. Rinse the soaked bitter gourd with water nicely, squeeze out the extra water 
  5. Heat oil in a pan on low flame. Add bitter gourd to it and saute 
  6. Keep stirring the bitter gourd in between
  7. Saute till it gets nice golden colour and is almost cooked
  8. Remove bittergourd in plate and keep it aside
  9. In the same pan with leftover oil. add finely chopped onions and saute until they turn pink
  10.  Add chopped garlic and saute till the raw smells disappear 
  11. Add red chilli powder and turmeric saute for a min
  12. Add chopped tomatoes, cover the pan cook until the tomatoes turn mushy
  13. Then to that mixture add fried bitter gourd and salt as per taste 
  14. Put a lid to pan and cook for five min 
  15. Add coriander leaves, sesame seeds and stir
  16. Serve bitter gourd sabzi with roti
